Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park

Managed by National Park Service

Hawai'i Volcanoes charges a $150 application fee and authorizes weddings at eight listed spots such as Kīlauea Overlook, Kūpina'i Pali and the end of Chain of Craters Road. The page gives no group cap or lead time, so email the Commercial Services Office early.

Permit fact card

Permit
Required: Special Use Permit — wedding
Application fee
$150 non-refundable application fee (pay on Pay.gov with a permit number obtained from the Commercial Services Office)
Entrance & parking
The page says permittees who enter for recreational purposes pay the same entrance fees as everyone else, while people on special park uses 'not recreational in nature' are exempt. It does not say which applies to weddings, so ask the park.
Caps & rules
Weddings should be small private affairs away from high-use areas, only at locations approved on the permit. Access must stay open to the public. Drones prohibited. Canopies, pop-up tents or tarps need written approval in advance.

What changed since our June 2026 guides

$150 and the drone ban are confirmed. June data said ceremonies are prohibited at Halema'uma'u crater and the hula platform, max one table and twelve chairs, and entrance fees apply. Today the page instead lists eight authorized locations (Halema'uma'u is not among them), no longer mentions the table and chairs, and says non-recreational special uses are exempt from entrance fees.
